Acupuncture is a 5000 year old Chinese medical therapy which stimulates the body’s own natural healing process. This is done by gently inserting needles at very precise acupuncture points.
The acupuncture points are found in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. Healing energy (known as Qi) circulates like a river throughout the body. Any obstruction in these energy pathways stagnates the flow, eventually leading to a disease process.
Needling specific acupuncture points unblocks the obstruction & re-establishes the regular flow of energy, thus relieving symptoms and improving quality of life.
Primary treatment goals get to the root of the problem. This relieves symptoms & stimulates the body’s own ability to heal. Prevention and maintenance is key.
Chinese Medicine is...
---A holistic system of healing & preventing illness through the use of acupuncture, herbs, moxabustion, & cupping.
---Based on the principles of internal balance & harmony. This highly refined & complex discipline works to regenerate the body’s organ systems, ie. circulatory, respiratory, neurological, endocrine, etc.
A person’s constitution, or the nature of disease, is determined by the aspects of Yin & Yang - the body’s energies. Harmony & balance of this union yields a healthy state, whereas excess or deficiency of either Yin or Yang leads to illness.
Common ailments treated:
-High Blood Pressure
-Pain, tendonitis, sciatica
-Stress and stress related disorders
Each treatment is individualized & specific according to one’s constitutions & condition.
The mechanism by which acupuncture yields benefits have been determined through clinical research & involve neurological, immunological, & hormonal responses.
Your initial visit will begin with a detailed history leading to a diagnosis. This includes examination of your tongue & a pulse reading. A care plan will be set up, based on the diagnosis. A treatment may include acupuncture, cupping (Ba Guan), & moxabustion.
The initial consultation and treatment will take about 60-90 minutes and subsequent treatments last for 45-60 minutes.
Acupuncture: Acupuncture points used in treatments are carefully chosen to disperse any blockages & to bring the patient’s Qi into balance.
Ba Guan: Cupping is a method of stimulating acupuncture points by applying suction through a glass jar in which a partial vacuum has been created. It is especially useful in the treatment of problems of local Qi, or blood stagnation in the channels.
Moxabustion: A dried herb called mugwort is burned just above the skin surface, over specific points. When lit, this herb burns slowly & provides a penetrating heat that enters the channels to influence Qi and blood flow.
Traditional Chinese medicine & acupuncture offer a holistic approach to looking and feeling younger, which address the actual causes of skin aging.
The use of acupuncture & herbs promotes the circulation of Qi & blood in the face, which regulate its flow in the body as well.
